Culture Salad
M Alan Roberts

It's a mixed-up planet we live on. Although I love to spend time exposing the US government for the corrupted slave ring that it is, I also have to say that I love the American attitude. The people of America are as cool as a breeze trough the trees and they all share at least one thing: a unique sense of belonging to a land that is able to deliver true prosperity and success to those who are willing to dedicate themselves. If you set innovative goals and work your plan with diligence, then you will most likely get what you're after in time. And that is really a special concept.

America is the melting pot of the world - and that is exactly what makes it so diverse and rich. People from everywhere join here to make a wonderfully-fresh culture salad. With so many different types of people sharing the same dreams, it creates a blend that is both healthy and delicious to contemplate. Thankfully, gone are the days when the white male thought that he was superior to all others - thankfully, we are finally beginning to emerge into a more intelligent realm where all people are considered as valid without thought given to their ethnicity.

Now, wait a minute. I know what you're thinking and you're correct: there are still factions of haters all around and there always will be. But this is my party and I am not considering their ignorance at present. I am trying to be positive for a change -- OK?

It is a prodigious way to experience life -- as a unified conglomeration of like-minded individuals -- all so very different yet still linked by certain idealistic commonalities. We are blessed enough to have been born in this society instead of so many other possibilites. Imagine what your day might consist of today had you been born in, say, the province of Darfur. Imagine living where you had to walk the desert sands for miles with weakened hopes of obtaining just some crushed grain for bread-making - and then having to heat it on a flat rock in the blistering heat.

There are so many - billions in fact -- that do not even have electricity on the planet. Their minds would melt upon entering an air-conditioned supermarket filled with thousands of food choices freely available. Surely, they would feel as though they had entered Utopia and curse the situations that they came from. Those are the people that we should consider and pray for - not our rich, selfish selves.

America is still a country where everyone is free to cross borders, develop free enterprise, exercise their choice of religion if so inclined, profess their own ideologies, own land and enjoy a kick-ass NASCAR race or even some Ultimate Fighting on pay-per-view. No matter how evil the government is or becomes, we, the people, are still ultimately in control - and the government knows it. Officials know that if they press us just a bit too far, we will rise up against them and stomp them into early political graves. They know that we are what makes them. We are who controls them We are Americans and we are tolerant until provoked. Then we will dominate with merciless force.

So, grubstreeters, let's move forward again this month knowing that things take time to evolve. Let's appreciate the blessings of our births and never take for granted this great country that we live in. Let's exercise understanding and compassion while simultaneously abolishing the ignorance of prejudice. Let's join together and realize the potential for greatness that we have all been given.

And take it easy on the cheese and dressing: we are all too fat, already.
