No Comparison
AJ Robinson

I keep hearing people debate the issue of who to vote for, in the upcoming presidential election. I’m sorry. There is no debate.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is not perfect.

Now, please understand, I’m not saying Hillary is perfect. She definitely has her flaws. When it comes to Dumb Donald, the laundry list of his flaws is almost too long to list.

Yet, I feel compelled to go through some of the high points just so I can get my point across. Okay, here we go. First, there’s the birther issue.

Now, I don’t know if Hillary started it and I don’t care. Even if she did, she eventually dropped it. Donald, he milked that cow for five solid years! I still remember him going on television, telling the hosts of some news programme that his private detectives were in Hawaii.

He said that people would not believe what they had uncovered. Does anyone remember that line? Don, what’d they find that was so incredible? You never did reveal it, did you?

There are his many other lies, but too numerous to list. I won’t bore you with them. I’ll just move on to important matters. Namely, why does Trump refuse to release his tax and more of his medical records? I think his followers would want to know these things, but it seems they don’t care. I wonder why.

Trump voluntarily depreciates women, minorities and refugees.

Next are his comments about women, Hispanics, blacks, Muslims, veterans and the disabled. He openly mocked a man with a physical disability! As the husband of a woman dealing with such issues, I take that are very offensive.

How about business sense, as Trump has zero political experience. What are his qualifications to be president? The man has had four bankruptcies and multiple business failures. In fact, most of his business ventures have failed. Now, these issues normally wouldn’t be something I’d consider; however, he touts his brilliance in business as why we should vote for him. Sorry, Donny, but you haven’t much of a record to run on there.

He speaks of being a good Christian. Really, three marriages, all to trophy wives and he cheated on each earlier wife with the replacement. Is that the action of a good Christian? Huh, I must have missed that book of the Bible.

What are his plans if he is president? Well, for the most part, it’s more of the same tired GOP agenda that has failed before; cut taxes on the rich, cut spending on the social safety net, cut regulations that protect people and pile things on the poor and working class. How many decades are we supposed to try these same things before we declare them failed?

Trump policies help the wealthy, not those in need of help.

Trump claims to want to help parents, but his so-called tax credit for childcare is a joke. It only works if you itemise, which most of the poor and middle class don’t do. Many of this group don’t pay any federal taxes, anyway.

So, who gets the benefit? Oh, that’s easy, the rich! What a surprise.

His other plans, especially as related to foreign affairs, are total insanity. Trump said that if Iranian boats come around US Navy ships and make rude gestures, by his order, their boats blown out of the water. He’s talking about starting a war over a gesture! Should he be Commander-in-Chief?

I could go on, listing Trump University, his contempt for the Khan family, and other Gold Star families, but I don’t see the need. I’m sorry to my friends and family who earnestly support this man, but I just can’t see it. The man is incompetent, and I’d no sooner vote for him for president than support his campaign to be dogcatcher!

Combining the gimlet-eye of Philip Roth with the precisive mind of Lionel Trilling, AJ Robinson writes about what goes bump in the mind, of 21st century adults. Raised in Boston, with summers on Martha's Vineyard, AJ now lives in Florida. Working, again, as an engineeer, after years out of the field due to 2009 recession and slow recovery, Robinson finds time to write. His liberal, note the small "l," sensibilities often lead to bouts of righteous indignation, well focused and true. His teen vampire adventure novel, "Vampire Vendetta," will publish in 2020. Robinson continues to write books, screenplays and teleplays and keeps hoping for that big break.
